TV Mounting for Rentals and Condos in Halifax
Updated: October 2026
You can usually mount a TV in a Halifax rental. The landlord-friendly setup is a surface mount into the studs with the cables in a paintable channel ($49): four screw holes, nothing cut into the wall, and at move-out we remove the mount and patch the holes for $49. The mounting itself is the same $99 to $179 as everywhere in HRM, you pay after the job, and we do not cut drywall in a rental without your landlord's written permission. Downtown condos with concrete or metal-stud walls get the anchors made for them.

Can you mount a TV in a rental in Halifax?
Usually yes. Nova Scotia leases generally allow normal wear, and small screw holes that are patched before you move out are normally fine. The exceptions are a lease that bans wall fixtures outright and a landlord who wants to be asked first, so check your lease and ask your landlord in writing before you book.
If you want something to send them, text us and we reply with a one-paragraph description of the work: where the bracket goes, how many holes, what hardware, and how it comes out at move-out. Forward it as it is.
The landlord-friendly setup
Two rules cover almost every rental and most condos.
- Surface mount plus paintable channel ($49 for the channel). Four lag screws into two studs hold the bracket, and the cables run down to the outlet in a slim on-wall channel that you paint the wall colour. Nothing goes inside the wall. At move-out: remove, patch, paint. We do the removal and patching for $49; the paint is yours.
- No in-wall work without written permission. We do not cut drywall in rentals unless you have your landlord's written OK. In-wall concealment ($119) and the recessed power kit ($219) are for owners and for units where the landlord or strata has approved it in writing.
Condos in downtown Halifax
Concrete and steel-stud walls are the norm in the towers downtown, on the waterfront, in Clayton Park and at King's Wharf. Concrete takes sleeve anchors set into drilled holes, with dust control; metal studs take toggle anchors rated for the TV weight, never the thin screws that come in the box. On concrete the wires go in the channel, because there is no cavity to fish through.
Both walls have their own page with the anchors, the time and the price: concrete walls and metal studs. If the building needs an elevator booking or has quiet hours, tell us when you book and we plan around them.
Move-out service: $49
When you leave, we come back, take the mount off the wall, patch and sand the holes and prime the spot, for $49. Paint matching is yours: a flat, primed patch is what the landlord looks for at the inspection. If you want the TV mounted again at the new place, that is a normal install at the usual $99 to $179.
What we document
On every rental and condo job we take a photo of the wall before we start and a photo of the finished install, and we keep a list of the hardware used: bracket model, screw or anchor type, and how many holes. You get all of it by text on request. It is the paperwork for your landlord or strata if a question comes up later, and it is what we work from at move-out.

Questions renters ask
Will I lose my deposit over a mounted TV?
Usually no. Small screw holes that are patched before move-out are normally treated as normal wear. Book the move-out removal and patching ($49) before the final inspection, keep the before-and-after photos we send you, and check your lease for anything stricter.
Do you need my landlord's permission?
For a surface mount with a paintable channel we need the leaseholder's OK, and we recommend asking the landlord in writing; text us and we send a one-paragraph description of the work you can forward. For anything inside the wall we need the landlord's written permission before we cut.
Can you mount a TV without drilling?
No. Adhesive and other no-drill mounts are not safe for a TV, and we do not install them. We only mount into studs or into anchors rated for the wall and the TV weight. The closest thing to no-drill is a surface mount on two studs: four small holes, patched at move-out for $49.
What about concrete walls in condos?
Routine. We drill the concrete with dust control and set sleeve anchors, and the cables go in a paintable channel because there is no cavity inside the wall. The anchors, the time and the price are on the concrete wall page.
Can you take it down when I move?
Yes. The move-out service is $49: we remove the mount, patch and sand the holes and prime the spot. Painting is yours. If you want the same TV mounted at the new address, that is a normal install at $99 to $179.
Do you mount in student housing or shared apartments?
Yes, same price. We need the leaseholder's OK, so if the lease is not in your name, ask the leaseholder first and tell the landlord the same way you would in any rental.
