TV mounted on a stone fireplace, before and after

- Where
- Halifax Regional Municipality
- TV
- LG smart TV
- Wall
- Stacked stone over a gas fireplace
- Wires
- Outlet behind the TV

The wall before
A full-height stacked-stone surround with a gas insert and, usefully, an outlet already placed where the TV would hang. That meant no cable run down the stone: the power cord and HDMI stay behind the screen.
Heat check first
With the fireplace running we measured the temperature at TV height before marking a single hole. It stayed inside the limit for the TV, so the spot above the firebox was fine.
Anchoring into stone
Stone and brick are drilled with a hammer drill and a masonry bit, into the body of the stone and never into the gaps between pieces, and the bracket hangs on anchors rated well above the weight of the TV. We vacuum the dust as we drill so the hearth stays clean.
The result
The TV sits centred over the firebox, level checked on the bracket and again on the screen, with no cable in sight. The customer keeps the remote and the outlet; we keep the photo.
